A tourist has not seen complete India without a visit to Mysore.

The local folk culture of the city is really unique and worth admiring. The cool climate and inspiring scenic views exhibited by the place will leave you mesmerized. In earlier times and till 15th century city was this known as 'Puragere' and earlier city was the capital of Wodeyar rules. The Wodeyar rules were great patrons of art & culture, which you can see in the rich heritage of the City. The history of Mysore is clearly reflected in the rich architecture of the City. It is the erstwhile capital of the Mysore Maharajas, who ruled Mysore state from this royal city.

There are so many interesting facts about Mysore:-
1. Mysore is the second largest software exporter in Karnataka, after Bangalore. Leading software companies such as Infosys & Wipro have established its major technical training center.
2. Mysore will be the first Indian city to have sky wheel. The Sky wheel is said to give a panoramic view to the visitors of the city within 20 km radius.
3. Mysore has one of the oldest libraries of India, known as the Oriental Research Institute. It is a strange and wonderfully preserved building. The library has a collection of around 50,000 palm leaf manuscripts, which is collected from personal collection across South India.
4. The Wodeyars ruled their kingdom steady between 1399 and 1947.The Wodeyars of Mysore is the only Indian Royal family in the history of India to have ruled a kingdom for more than 500 years.
5. In the 1780s, Mysorean rockets were the first iron-cased rockets that were successfully deployed for military use. Hyder Ali, the 18th century ruler of Mysore and his son and successor, Tipu sultan used them effectively against the British East India Company. Their conflicts with the company exposed the British to this technology, which was then used to advance European rocketry with the development of the Congreve rocket.
6. Mysore Zoo is the oldest zoos of India and is inland of 168 species. The zoo was originally called the palace zoo and is built on summer palace of Maharaja Sri Chamaraja Wodeyar.
7. Modern education began in Mysore when a free English school was established in 1833. The first college to be set up for higher education was the Maharajas College, founded in 1864.

Day 1 : Bangalore / Mysore via Srirangapatnam (150 kms / 3 hrs)

Morning departure from Bangalore and driven towards south-west to the city Known as Mysore. En route visit Srirangapatnam takes its name from the celebrated Ranganathaswamy temple which dominates the town, making Srirangapatnam one of the most important Vaishnavite enters of pilgrimage in south India. It remained part of the Kingdom of Mysore from 1610 to after India's independence in 1947; as the fortress closest to the capital city of Mysore, it was the last bastion and defence of the kingdom in case of invasion. It houses Jumma Masjid (a Mosque) and the Daria Daulat Garden.
Then continue towards Mysore.
Arrive at Mysore and transfer to hotel. Traditional welcome on arrival at hotel.
Afternoon visit Mysore City. With the influence of its cultural fusion, Mysore is sobriquet as the cultural capital of Karnataka that often attracts tourists from different part of the world. The culture ambiance, which is embellished with art, painting, music, dance, festivals and are the utmost Mysore attractions exhibiting the influence of the Vijayanagara Empire and Wodeyar dynasty.
Visit the Mysore Palace. Built during 1897 - 1912, the Mysore Palace dominates the skyline of the district. It is also the residence of the Mysore royal family. The Mysore palace is regarded as the most splendid structures in India. The Mysore palace is well known for its architecture.
It was designed by the English architect, Henry Irwin. The Mysore Palace is a three storied structure constructed in the Indo Saracenic style. The Mysore palace is a fine example of the Muslim, Rajput and Hindu. Beautifully designed square towers are situated at the cardinal point and are covered with domes. The ornate ceiling and sculpted pillars of Durbar Hall along with the Kalyana Mantapa (marriage pavilion) which has glazed tiled flooring, stained glass and domed ceiling are undoubtedly the charm of this royal heritage. . The Residential Museum within the Mysore Palace incorporates some of the living quarters, temples and shrines including the Shweta Varahaswamy temple. The jewel encrusted golden throne is on display during special occasions like the festival of Dussehra. The palace is illuminated with more than 90,000 electric bulbs.
History of the palace is, The Wodeyar dynasty has built the Mysore palace in the 14th century. Mysore city was ruled by the Wodeyar dynasty from the 14th century until India's independence in the year 1947. In the year 1638 a lightning strike hit the palace, causing damage to the palace. In the year 1793 the palace was demolished, which led to the building of a new palace in the year 1803. In the year 1897 the palace was set on fire while Princess Jayalakshmanni (princess from the Wodeyar dynasty) was on the throne. The palace was later rebuilt by Krishna Raja Wodeyar IV under Henry Irwin's (British Architect) administration.
Then visit Mysore Zoo, located in the heart of Mysore City, the Zoo is a very Popular. It's arguably the second sought after attraction in the city after Mysore Palace. More importantly this is a sprawling zoo with a great variety of exotic and rare animals. Mysore zoo is one of the oldest Zoo in the country. This was started way back in 1892 as a private zoo attached to the palace. Though it is popularly called "Mysore Zoo", the official name is Shri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, named after its founding maharaja Shri Chamarajendra Wodeyar. This is the only zoo in India to have a Gorilla. The zoo also houses Chimpanzee. The huge trenches draws big crowd. Other exotic animals of Mysore zoo include Giraffes, Zebras, White Deer, African Elephants, Bears, Porcupines, Rhinoceros, Tapir, and Otters etc.
It takes anything from 2 hours to visit this sprawling zoo. The animal enclosures are large and scattered quite apart. You'll be walking many kilometers before completing the tour. If that looks like a challenge, there is a battery operated buggy service that makes a round trip. But this zoo is best enjoyed on foot. The zoo is at a short distance from Mysore Palace.

Also visit St. Philomena's Church, it is one of the oldest Churches in India. It is over 200 years old. Initially over 250 years ago there was a small church in its place. When the capital of Mysore state was move from Srirangapatnam to Mysore city in 1799, many British officers and soldiers came and settled down in Mysore. The Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar III realized the need for a Christian church for these people. So the Maharaja gave them a small plot of land on the Mysore-Bangalore Road and a little church came up there. As the city expanded and the Christian population of the city increased there was a need for a larger church.
The entire church is built in the Gothic style is one of the largest Cathedrals in South Asia. The Church has the relic of the 3rd century St. Philomena that is in a beautiful catacomb that is below the main altar. The construction of the church was completed under Bishop Rene Fuga's supervision. The story of St. Philomena dates back to the 3rd century A.D. Philomena was the daughter of the monarch of a small state in Greece. Her parents were childless. They prayed to God and asked Him to bless them with a child and promised to convert to Christianity if their wish was granted. The next year Philomena was born to them. Even in her childhood Philomena showed signs of piety. When Philomena was 13 years' old her father took her to Rome to obtain the favour of Emperor Diocletion.
The Emperor was enthralled by her beauty and wanted to marry her. But she refused and vowed to give herself to God. As she refused to marry the Emperor she was tortured and beheaded in Rome. But people's devotion for her spread near and far and she was given sainthood. There are a number of churches dedicated to her all over the world.

Day 2 : Mysore / Bangalore via Somanathapuram (175 kms / 4 hrs)

Morning excursion towards Chamundi hills, Located 12 kms from Mysore which lie 3,489 ft. Above ground. it was Built approximately 300 years ago. On reaching the top of the hill, visit the Dravidian Temple dedicated to Sri Chamundeshwari Devi who is regarded as the tutelary goddess of Mysore. She is also considered as an incarnation of Parvati and/or Durga.
The statue of Goddess Sri Chamundeshwari is situated on the Chamundi hills. The idol of the goddess bears twenty hands and a statue of a lion besides her. During 1600 AD, Raja Wodeyar built a gopura with four large pillar posts. These were removed when Krishnaraja Wodeyar III rebuilt the gopura. Krishnaraja Wodeyar III covered it with golden finials along with a statue of himself and his three queens in the presence of the Goddess. In 1827, he made arrangement for festivals and processions.
Situated half way through the Chamundi Hills, one can spot a sacred bull. It was a gift given by Doda Deva Raja and is considered as a recumbent colossal Nandi or the Vehicle of Lord Shiva. The eyes of the bull are half shut. It is 25 feet long and 16 feet high and is covered with with ropes, chains, bells and jewels of stone.
Return to Mysore.
After Lunch, depart towards Bangalore. En route visit Somanathapuram temple, located at a distance of 25 kms from Mysore, Somanathapuram temple can be spotted near the Shivanasamudra Waterfalls. The temple is exquisitely carved in star shape and consists of triple towers. Intricate designs of Hoysala Architecture can be observed here.
Images of caparisoned elephants, charging horsemen along with mythological birds and beast are arranged in rows on the outer walls of the temple. Sculpted images of gods and goddesses along with scenes from epics can be noticed here.
The temple is a world heritage site and is a must visit for history seekers as well as nature lovers. The temple is placed in an isolated location and serves as a peaceful retreat.
Then continue towards Bangalore. Arrive & drop at your originated point.

Best time to Visit Mysore:-
Mysore acquits a pleasant climate throughout the year. Still if you inquire the best time to visit Mysore the answer is no doubt "Anytime!", but to make it more cozy and elaborate, autumn to spring is the ideal season to be in its lap. The summers are not that hot and the winters are not very cold, however, you can avoid the monsoon that showers in between June and September.
1.Summer season in Mysore: - summer season starts from the month of March and continues till the month of May. The average temperature varies in the range of 22'C to 39'C.
2. Monsoon season in Mysore: - Monsoon season lies in the month of July to September experiencing hot and humid climate. Mysore receives an average annual rainfall of 804.2 mm.
3. Winter season in Mysore:- From the month of October to February, Mysore has extremely pleasant climate condition. The minimum temperature recorded is 10'C. Winter season is regarded as the best season to visit Mysore.
