Mumbai - Bekal - Wayanad - Calicut - Cochin - Thekkady - Kumarakom - Alleppey

Day 1 : Arrive Mumbai

Traditional welcome at Mumbai international airport by Travel Pals executive and transfer to hotel for overnight stay with immediate check-in.

Day 2 : Mumbai

After a relaxed breakfast, introduced with your guide for a city tour visiting the Gateway of India - built under the British Raj on the waterfront in Apollo Bunder area overlooking the Arabian Sea to commemorate the landing of their majesties King Geroge V and Queen Mary.

An excursion by ferry from Gateway to the Elephanta Caves which are carved out of rock and have also been given the recognition of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known in ancient times as Gharapuri, the present name Elephanta, was given by 17th century Portuguese explorers, after seeing a monolithic basalt sculpture of an elephant found here near the entrance. They decided to take it home but ended up dropping it into the sea because their chains were not strong enough. Beautiful sculptures of one of the most important Hindu Lord Shiva and family can be seen inside here.

On your return to the shore, visit the following intersting sites: the Crawford Market - a shopper's paradise for groceries, dry fruits, spices, poultry etc; Dhobi Ghat - open air laundry, Chatrapati Shivaji Railway Station (erstwhile Victoria Terminus) building and also visit the the Prince of Wales Museum - one of the best-known museums of the country. This magnificent heritage building, situated on the famous 'Crescent Site' on the way to the Gateway of India, is a landmark of south Mumbai. Architecturally it is an exquisite example of the Indo-Saracenic style, popular in India during the early part of this century.

Day 3 : Mumbai- Mangalore (air) - Bekal (50 kms / 1.5 hrs)

Morning transferred to Mumbai airport to board a short flight for Mangalore on the south western coast. Met on arrival at airport with your driver for a short drive to Bekal town in Kerala state on the coast. Check in your resort and relax.

Evening visit Bekal Fort. This fort is the largest and the best-preserved fort in Kerala.

Day 4 : Bekal

Day at leisure to enjoy the beach side town and the spa therapies in your resort.

Day 5 : Bekal - Wayanad (225 kms / 5 hrs)

Driven southward to Wayanad resort. 

Evening at leisure. 

Day 6 : Wayanad - Calicut (75 kms / 1.5 hrs)

Driven to Calicut (Kozhikhode). This is where the Eurpoean explorer Vasco Da Gama landed in 1498 and made it famous as the 'City of Spice' as it played a majot role in spice trading and the route.

Day 7 : Calicut - Cochin (225 kms / 5 hrs)

Early morning visit Dolphin's point, a good place to watch dolphins playing in the sea.

Breakfast at hotel followed by a drive to Cochin (Kochi) hotel.

Evening free.

Day 8 : Cochin 

A guided tour of the city visiting Fort Kochi, with its European heritage, St. Francis' Church, Chinese fishing nets, Dutch palace and Jewish Synagogue.

Day 9 : Cochin - Thekkady (185 kms / 5 hrs)

An interesting drive to inland Kerala following the spice trail to Thekkady town in Idukki district situated near the famous Periyar National Park and the lake. The vicinity of this town is famous for spice & coffee plantation. 

Day 10 : Thekkady

An early morning boat ride on the Periyar Lake where you will enjoy abundant bird watching and a chance to see the mighty elephant on the banks.

Return to your resort for breakfast. Day at leisure to choose from one of the many activities in and around the park such as Nature Walk, Jungle Patrol, Bamboo Rafting, Border Hiking etc.

Day 11 : Thekkady - Kumarakom (125 kms / 3.5 hrs)

After breakfast driven to Kumarakom which is famous for it's backwater resorts and houseboats. Experience the serene & tranquil environment on the famous Vembanad Lake.  

You will have two nights in a lake side resort.

Day 12 : Kumarakom

Free day to enjoy the ambience.

Day 13 : Kumarakom - Alleppey sailing

Today, you will embark a private backwater houseboat locally known as Kettuvalloms - a traditional rice boat of Kerala from the jetty point of your resort for an overnight on the boat with your meals cooked and served on board. You will have an air-conditioned bedroom with attached toilet and shower, upper & lower lounge deck and a pantry with a captain, chef and an attendant/server.


Day 14 : Alleppey - onward

After breakfast on board, you will disembark your boat and head to Cochin international airport for onward flight or you have white sandy beaches (30 minutes away) calling you to spend sometime under the sun lazing on the hammock watching the sea waves and sipping cocktails and scrumptious Kerala style seafood.
